A Study of Differentials on the Life Expectancy at Birth between Korea and Japan
ÀÓ´Þ¿À/Lim DO
Abstract
The followings are the results of analysis on the influences in life expectancy at birth between the Korea and Japan. In male, the mortality reductions at age 0 had the largest impact on the regional(Korea and Japan) differential in life expectancy at birth in 1971, 1981 and 1991. In female, the mortality reductions at age 0 had the largest impact on the regional(Korea and Japan) differential in life expectancy at birth in 1971 and 1981. While, in male and female, the decline in mortality at the age group over 65 years was the largest contributor to the regional(Korea and Japan) differential in life expectancy at birth in 1999. Especially in age groups of over 75 years tended to increase in the regional(Korea and Japan) differential in life expectancy at birth than any other age groups did, and this trend of females was even more remarkable.
In Korea, the sex differential in mortality at the ages(55-64 years) contributed the most to the total sex differential in life expectancy at birth in 1971, 1981, 1991. and 1999, while in Japan, the mortality differential at ages 65-74 had the largest impact on the increase to the total sex differential of life expectancy at birth in 1971, 1981 and 1991. In 1999, expecially in age groups of over 75 years tended to increase in the total sex differential in life expectancy at birth. In Korea and Japan, the mortality differential at ages 0-34 had the smallest impact on the increase to the total sex differential of life expectancy at birth in the same times.
